On July 10, 2007, Sysmex America announced that Andreas Braun, M.D., Ph.D., has been named Scientific Affairs Director for the company's Life Sciences division. Dr. Braun is based in the Mundelein corporate headquarters and will report directly to the President. His responsibilities include professional relations with external clinical thought leaders, product development and commercialization and outcome-based studies. He also will handle medical affairs activities for all Life Sciences products in the field.

During his 25-year career, he has developed an extremely impressive IP record, with six patents issued in the area of DNA diagnostics, and over twenty diagnostics patents published and submitted. We look forward to his leadership in our Life Sciences area," said John Kershaw, President, Sysmex America.

Prior to joining Sysmex America, Dr. Braun was president and founder of San Diego-based company Dx Innovations, Inc. whose focus is discovery and validation of early detection diagnostic panels. Before Dx, Dr. Braun was the Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Genomics for Sequenom, Inc, among other roles there. He also served in a number of diagnostics & scientific roles at the University of Munich, Germany including Deputy Director of the Diagnostic Laboratory for the Children's Hospital.

Dr. Braun earned his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees in biology and medicine from the University of Munich. He is a recipient of the German Society of Clinical Chemistry's Garbor Szasz Award and is currently a member of the German Society of Human Genetics. Dr. Braun also serves in an advisory board capacity for several biotechnology companies.
