Bet Tzedek
From WikiCover
Bet Tzedek means the house of justice in Hebrew.
Bet Tzedek is a public-interest law firm that provides free legal services to low-income, disabled and elderly residents of Los Angeles County. Its mission is to ensure equal justice for all.
Each year, Bet Tzedek staff and volunteers serve more than ten thousand clients of all racial and religious backgrounds with critical legal needs, principally in the areas of consumer fraud, housing issues, workplace matters, elder care, and Holocaust reparations.
The Justice Ball is one of Bet Tzedek's principal fund-raising events and, since inception, has raised more than $3.5 million in support of vital Bet Tzedek programs. The event also enables Bet Tzedek to reach out to thousands of young lawyers and other professionals, more than five hundred of whom volunteer their services each year to The House of Justice's clients.
Justice Ball XI was held on July 28, 2007 in The Lot (formerly Warner Hollywood Studios). Performing was Violent Femmes, an alternative-rock band best known for hits including American Music, Add It Up, Blister in the Sun, Gone Daddy Gone and I Held Her in My Arms.
