Founded in July 2000 by the Compagnia di San Paolo and the Politecnico di Torino, the ISMB has welcomed industrial partners such as Motorola, SKF, STMicroelectronics and Telecom Italia. In Italy, it represents one of the most successful examples of cooperation between industry and the academic world. The Institute is now a Research Center with proven excellence in wireless technologies and with competences, which range from Radio Frequency Identifiers (RFId) to the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT), the Sensors Wireless Networks (SWN), and the satellite receivers. A staff of some 250 qualified scientists and engineers work in the main research areas of Antennas and Electromagnetic Compatibility, e-Security, Photonics, Microsystems, Satellite Navigation, Networking and wireless protocols, and Radiomobile technologies for multimedia applications.
