On November 16, 2007, the luxury chocolatier announced the opening of its new shop: MarieBelle on Madison, at 762 Madison Avenue.
Maribel Lieberman, the passion and personality behind the brand, has recreated for MarieBelle on Madison the intimacy of the Cacao Bar in her successful Soho flagship, an atmosphere that immediately brings to mind the cafes of Paris, Vienna and Budapest. Inspired by the elegant opulence of a bygone era, Lieberman added ornate elements reminiscent of the sitting room in a French palace using gilded scroll-work mirrors, highly-polished woods with flecks of gold, and tufted chairs where antique gold patterns play against burnished red brocade. Bejeweled chandeliers hung throughout the space cast a crystalline glow across the antique textures and colors of the paintings that adorn the walls. Each piece has been designed expressly for the space to communicate the feeling that everything found here belongs here.
Patrons rise above the bustle of Madison Avenue and escape to the quiet of MarieBelle's chic chocolate paradise. Seating flanks an inviting gold fireplace, regal against the backdrop of deep red walls. A cozy nook filled with cooking and style books, both vintage and new, beckons from across the room. From the Cacao Bar, aromas of freshly baked pastries, cookies and cakes deliver their promise to beguile with every bite.
Softer blue walls mark the retail space where a grand glass counter lit with the precision of a fine jewelry case displays MarieBelle's exquisite chocolate ganaches, each one a gem of design and sensory perfection. Choose one from the vivid blue and brown box, and the heady aroma of rich pure chocolate captivates, turning the simple act of eating a chocolate into a fully satisfying experience of indulgence. Each tiny bon bon, offering flavors like Cardamom, Dulce de Leche, and Capirinha, imparts incomparable creaminess and taste that flirt with the palate.
