Michelin designs, manufactures, and sells tires for every type of vehicle, including airplanes, automobiles, bicycles, earthmovers, farm equipment, heavy-duty trucks, motorcycles and the space shuttle. The company also publishes travel guides, hotel and restaurant guides, maps and road atlases.

Headquartered in Greenville, South Carolina, Michelin North America employs more than twenty-two thousand and operates nineteen major manufacturing plants in seventeen locations.

Announced August 7, 2007, Michelin North America is investing $350 million to improve and expand every major manufacturing facility in South Carolina over the next four years. This latest round of Michelin investments will upgrade all the company's manufacturing facilities in Anderson, Greenville, Lexington, and Spartanburg counties, and will add approximately a hundred new manufacturing jobs to the company's 7,850 current employees in South Carolina.
