On June 24, 2007, Midwest Airlines extended its commitment to customer service to two special canine athletes and their trainer. Mako, an Australian shepherd, and Nemo, a Jack Russell terrier, flew on Midwest Airlines from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to New York with their trainer, Lourdes Edlin. As part of a special arrangement approved by the Federal Aviation Administration and Midwest Airlines, Mako occupied a seat in the aircraft's main cabin and Nemo traveled below Edlin's seat. Both dogs are professional canine athletes and ambassadors for the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge.
Midwest Airlines regulary povides special service to its canine customers. The airline's Premier Pet Program was the first of its kind to reward customers with free travel for their pets and the opportunity to redeem their own miles for pet travel.
