Software MacKiev is a leading developer and publisher of award-winning consumer and educational software, including Kid Pix Deluxe 3X, The Print Shop for Mac, World Book Multimedia Encyclopedia, 3D Weather Globe & Atlas and Roger Wagner's HyperStudio. Software MacKiev is also the world's largest company dedicated to assisting other software publishers in adopting Apple technologies in their products.

On July 6, 2007, Software MacKiev released This Day in History, the first in a series of planned educational iPhone software applications. Based on the widget of the same name from Software MacKiev's World Book Multimedia Encyclopedia, the iPhone application shows a calendar page for each historical event that took place on that day. On July 6th, for example, it shows that John Paul Jones, the American naval hero, was born on this day in 1747. Events that correspond to the current day in history are shown automatically each day.

Under development is an iPhone companion application to the company's award-winning 3D Weather Globe & Atlas that will display wind speed, barometric pressure, dew point and other weather conditions. Another educational iPhone application planned for a summer release is Software MacKiev's World Book Trivia Challenge, with questions taken from the World Book Multimedia Encyclopedia, and answers given that include the name of the World Book article in which more information on the each topic can be found.
