Spice Girls
From WikiCover
The Spice Girls juggernaut was first unleashed upon the world in 1996 when the group, known to their legions of fans as Posh (Victoria), Scary (Mel B.), Baby (Emma), Sporty (Melanie C.), and Ginger (Geri), released the single "Wannabe" from their self-titled debut album. The song, which hit Number One in the UK and 30 other countries, became the highest debut ever on Billboard's Hot 100 chart by a British band, beating out the Beatles' "I Want To Hold Your Hand." The group's second album, Spiceworld, sold more than 10 million copies and spawned four massive singles, including "Spice Up Your Life," as well as a feature film of the same name. After the departure of Geri Halliwell, Spice Girls released its third album, 2000's Forever, before the group disbanded in 2001 to pursue solo careers. Overall, Spice Girls have sold more than 55 million albums around the world.
