Steve Miller Band , The Joker, 1974

The Steve Miller Band's show at Chicago's Ravinia Festival sold out in less than 24 hours in 2006, so the band was asked to play two consecutive nights, July 13th and 14th, 2007. The band will film its first official live DVD during the two-night concert. It will mark a first for the festival as well: Miller will be the first rock artist to make a live DVD at Ravinia, which is North America's oldest outdoor music festival. The DVD will be shot by Coming Home Productions in 5.1 Surround Sound and state-of-the-art high definition.

Playing Chicago is always special for Miller. As a young guitarist, he fell in love with the city and its vibrant mid-1960's blues scene during a brief visit -- and promptly dropped out of the University of Wisconsin to move there. Soon Miller was recording with blues legends Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. He also formed a band with keyboardist Barry Goldberg while residing there. After the band's breakup, Miller moved to San Francisco and formed the Steve Miller Blues Band (later shortened to the Steve Miller Band), which emerged as one of the seminal bands of the Summer of Love.

With its unique, improvisational blend of rock, blues, jazz and pop, the Steve Miller Band was one of the original jam bands. The band commands a massive, multi-generational following and its hits -- including "Take the Money and Run," Rockin' Me," "The Joker," "Abracadabra," "Jungle Love" and "Fly Like An Eagle," to name but a few -- are still staples at classic rock radio.
