On June 5, 2007, OpenLink Software announced the immediate availability of the latest release of its industry-acclaimed Universal Server Platform, Virtuoso Universal Server 5.0.1. The new product release includes powerful enterprise-level Semantic Data Web technology features such as:

  • High-Performance SPARQL-compliant RDF Quad Store
  • Full Text Indexing extension to SPARQL
  • SPARQL Update Language (SPARUL) support
  • Aggregate Function extensions to SPARQL
  • Integration of SPARQL and SQL
  • Built-in Middleware (Sponger) for dynamically producing RDF data from non-RDF data sources
  • Declarative SQL to RDF mapping


Virtuoso enables transparent integration of heterogeneous corporate databases, Web sites, Web 2.0 data sources, and other Internet-accessible data, both within the enterprise and across the Semantic Data Web. It automates the process of creating and linking disparate data via the RDF Data Model.

The new release is available in 32- and 64-bit forms on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, Solaris, IBM AIX, HP-UX, and other UNIX platforms.

Industry standards supported by Virtuoso include SQL, ODBC, JDBC, ADO.NET, OLEDB, SPARQL, GData, XQuery, XPath, XSLT, XML/A, WebDAV, HTTP, NNTP, Atom Publishing, and more.
